In collaboration with Ud Festival

The NBE is always on the lookout for special musicians from close to home and far away. It’s about time that the mother of all plucked string instruments, the phenomenal Arabic oud, was put in the limelight. The oud has always played an important part in our programmes, but never the main role. Melancholic Arabic melodies, hushed lamentos by the 17th-century composer John Dowland, exciting Spanish rythms and rough blues. The Moroccan Driss el Maloumi, the world most renowned oud player, the man who can bring his audience to tears within just a few seconds, will be surrounded by 3 energetic young Dutch talents: classical lute player David Mackor, flamenco guitarist Jeff Heijne and blues guitarist Dusty Ciggaar. They will battle it out and join hands, challenged and supported by the NBE.
