Growing up in a musical family, at age 14, Janneke was already playing in the orchestra of OZG Orpheus, her grandfather Joop Groesz’s operetta association. That year, they performed Smetana’s ‘The Bartered Bride’. There, in the orchestra pit, surrounded by musicians from her father Wouter’s orchestra, Janneke knew for sure: “This is the most fun thing there is, and I want to do this for the rest of my life.” Janneke then began flute lessons with Jeannette Landré (now a colleague in the NBE, but at the time also a colleague of her father Wouter), who prepared Janneke for the conservatory.
Since completing her master’s degree, Janneke has gone through life with a song in her heart. Through playing in symphony orchestras (Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Metropole Orkest, Phion, Residentie Orkest, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Pynarello, and the Symphony Orchestra of India), various ensembles, and many theater productions, she has developed into a lover of all genres, ensembles, and cultural combinations. In addition to her work as a musician, Janneke has also been practicing Kung Fu (martial arts) for quite some time and has a passion for philosophy and related intellectual pursuits.
