Ron Schaaper
French horn,
Music can be found in every object, or so Ron Schaaper (1973) believes. Although he is a master on the horn, he equally enjoys playing a piece by Leopold—Mozart’s father—on a garden hose. And it sounds quite good too. “That’s what I love about the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. We play all forms of music and theater. There’s so much freedom. Besides the horn, I also play the guitar, and if possible, I sing along. I can channel all my passions through our ensemble.”
After studying horn in Utrecht, Ron focused primarily on chamber music. He has played in small ensembles with, among others, Daniel Blumenhtal, Marc-André Hamelin, Sergio Azzolini, Janine Jansen, and Liza Ferschtman. “I love the interaction. You’re so close to the music.” However, the multi-instrumentalist Schaaper does not shy away from large symphonies. Leading the horn section with the Residentie Orkest, he regularly tackles the great masters.
