Johan van der Linden

Saxophone,

Johan van der Linden

You can say a lot about Johan van der Linden, but not that he is lazy. If it were possible, Johan would prefer to play all day and night. In addition to his regular work with the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, he frequently joins other ensembles to showcase his saxophone skills. Johan also regularly teaches saxophone students, imparting the nuances of the profession. As if that weren’t enough, the saxophonist also regularly composes new pieces and arrangements, which are published by various publishers.

In the early 1980s, Johan, along with NBE member Willem van Merwijk and two other saxophonists, founded the renowned Aurelia Saxophone Quartet in Rome. One of the highlights, in addition to numerous worldwide tours, was winning the Edison Award in 1988.

Besides NBE, Johan currently enjoys playing in two more recent initiatives:  with pianist Henry Kelder, he performs in the duo Lind’nKelder, and together with his partner Elkse te Lindert (vocals and organ), he forms the duo Flor de Tilo.
