During this final, young composers compete against each other for a spot in the New Year’s Concert. They represent the cream of the crop of young composers in the Netherlands. In this final, three winners will be chosen, all of whom will perform their own piece together with the NBE during the annual New Year’s Concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on January 1st.

For over twenty years, the NBE has encouraged thousands of children and young people to compose their own music and make music together! The young composers competition On the Road to the New Year’s Concert has been a household name for over twenty years, with a different theme each year and under the motto ‘anything goes, as long as you made it up yourself’. The young composers competition was the starting point and became the basis of an extensive talent development program for young (top) talent.
