Genesis (De Schepping) – Nationaal Bomenmuseum Gimborn

This year, the National Trees Museum Gimborn (Nationaal Bomenmuseum Gimborn) celebrates its 100th anniversary. To mark this milestone, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, together with Bart Moeyaert, will perform Genesis (De Schepping) during the cultural weekend of the Trees Museum.

‘Genesis’ or ‘De Schepping  is the first part of the successful music theater trilogy by the NBE & Bart Moeyaert based on “Die Schöpfung” by Franz Joseph Haydn, in an original and special adaptation for wind instruments by Josef Treibensee, a contemporary of Haydn.

The Flemish writer Bart Moeyaert wrote his own text to accompany the old music and will himself narrate his creation story in a very engaging manner during the performance.

“In the beginning there was nothing.
It is difficult to imagine that.
Everything that’s here now you must not allow to be here yet.
You must turn out the light, and not be here yourself,
and then forget the dark too,
because in the beginning there was nothing, not even the dark.
If you want to see the beginning of everything, you must omit a great deal.
Including your mother.”
