Troubadours

In collaboration with Ud Festival

The NBE is always on the lookout for special musicians from close to home and from far away. It’s about time that the mother of all plucked string instruments, the phenomenal Arabic oud, was put in the limelight. The oud has always played an important part in our programmes, but never the main role. Four energetic young Dutch talents: oud-player Jaber Fayad, classical lute player David Mackor, flamenco guitarist Jeff Heijne and blues guitarist Dusty Ciggaar will battle it out and join hands, challenged and supported by the NBE. Melancholic Arabic melodies, hushed lamentos by the 17th-century composer John Dowland, exciting Spanish rythms and rough blues, all in fascinating arrangements by Julian Schneemann.
