Het Paradijs (Paradise) – September Me festival

This autumn, NBE and Bart Moeyaert will play Het Paradijs (Paradise) at the September Me music festival in Amersfoort.

Every year September Me, the music festival for explorers organised by the Ragazze Quartet, presents a special festival program for young and old with a curious and open mind. Composers, musicians and artists reflect on that year’s theme in a creative and inspiring way. This year it is: Out of Love. What fits better with this than the loving program Het Paradijs?

With the three oratorios by Franz Joseph Haydn (Die Schöpfung, Die Jahreszeiten and Die Sieben letzten Worte) as a starting point, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, together with the Flemish writer Bart Moeyaert, created a successful music theater trilogy consisting of De Schepping (Genesis), Het Paradijs (Paradise) and De Hemel (Heaven).

Paradise is the second part of the cycle based on Die Jahreszeiten in a special arrangement for wind ensemble by Hans van der Heide. Bart Moeyaert wrote a new text for the old music and is himself the narrator during the concerts. The story of Paradise begins where Creation ended. The garden of Eden is one of excess. Bart Moeyaert’s language is vibrant. In a few strokes of the pen he describes the exuberant nature and stimulates all the senses. He makes it palpable between the lines that amid all the harmony there are only two dissonants: the man who tells the story and the woman who is with him.

Based on an original idea by Bart Schneemann & Bart Moeyaert.
