Every year, the young composer’s competition On the way to the New Year’s Concert proves its strength. Composing is nothing more or less than coming up with your own music. Whether you play it, sing it, on your own, with your band, a friend, musicians from your own orchestra, jazz or steel band: everything is allowed and everything is possible, in all styles. All that matters is that you came up with it yourself! The competition appears to be a springboard for many serious composing talents in the Netherlands.

SHOWCASES
During the Showcases, the regional preliminary rounds of the young composer’s competition, the young participants get the opportunity to show what they have to offer live for the first time. A casual yet serious moment to present their piece, song, rap or other form of music to the audience and the jury. The jury chooses six winners per region who will proceed to the Composers Weekend. These participants are mentored by an arranger, who helps them make an arrangement of their composition for the NBE!
