“In the beginning there was nothing.
It is difficult to imagine that.
Everything that’s here now you must not allow to be here yet.
You must turn out the light, and not be here yourself,
and then forget the dark too,
because in the beginning there was nothing, not even the dark.
If you want to see the beginning of everything, you must omit a great deal.
Including your mother.”
The first days of our planet lie in a distant past, but the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble brings them tangibly closer with its own version of Joseph Haydn’s oratorio hit Die Schöpfung. They invite author Bart Moeyaert to tell the story of creation afresh. And that is literally what he does during the performance, in his own inimitable way. With an endearing wonder, but also the necessary scepticism, he comments on God’s first working week, up to and including the day on which he rested.
At Festival STROOM, we will present this special performance once again together with Bart Moeyaert.
