December 2025 – Yesterday marked the final of the Composition Competition 2025 at TivoliVredenburg: an exciting and sparkling final concert, full of inspiration and musical talent.
The three winners who will perform with the NBE during the New Year’s Concert are Sara van Gaans (18), Casper Rekmans (16) and András Dijkema (11). This year’s theme was The Ideal World — and each of them gave it a completely personal interpretation.
In the beautiful song Is It Really Too Much To Ask?, Sara (voice and piano) wonders why we sometimes seem to forget what truly matters in the world: peace and love.
Casper (trumpet) drew inspiration from Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony (From the New World) and translated it into his own sound, full of American jazz and funk influences. In The 9th Groove, he is accompanied by the swinging Merith van Eijden on bass guitar.
For András (violin), making music and improvising is the greatest joy there is. He believes that dreaming of a better future is the very first step — his composition Impromptoetoe is like a musical dream.
They will be there on December 31 and January 1! Will you be watching?
