American Roots

The NBE delves deep into the heart of American music. Together with Native American singer Charly Lowry, a musical talent and descendant of the Tuscarora, the NBE explores the beauty of Native American culture, where people feel deeply connected to nature.

Also seeking our roots in nature was Philip Glass, whose music for the iconic film “Koyaanisqatsi,” adapted for the NBE, serves as a common thread throughout the program. In the language of the Hopi tribe, “koyaanisqatsi” means life out of balance. The film highlights the complex relationship between humans, nature, and technology.

Like a meandering river, the two musical landscapes flow together, supported by live projections from the brilliant visual artist Vincent Rang.

Based on an original idea by Bart Schneemann & Julian Schneemann.

Prior to each concert, an introduction to the performance is provided. The introduction is free, but for some venues, reservations may be required (see theater websites for more information).
