To mark the International Day of Peace, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (NBE) joins forces with Stichting Vluchteling, TivoliVredenburg, and PHIL Haarlem to present the sixth edition of the Concert for the International Day of Peace.
From classical music to world music, sometimes with a touch of pop, the NBE creates surprising connections between different musical traditions, resulting in a rich and varied programme featuring a diverse range of musical styles. This year’s special guests are Bahram Sadeghi, Roufaida and Bahghi.
Program maker, journalist and writer Bahram Sadeghi, an ambassador for Stichting Vluchteling, is committed to raising awareness of people around the world affected by war and conflict. During the performance, he will share a personal story.
Roufaida is a Dutch-Moroccan singer-songwriter who brings together North African influences, Arabic poetry and alternative pop to create a sound that is uniquely her own. In her music, she explores themes such as identity, connection, war and equality.
The distinctive music of Eritrean-Dutch singer Bahghi combines her Eritrean roots with influences from soul, R&B and pop. She sings about identity, love, home and the search for connection.
As every year, we will connect via a large screen with musicians from conflict zones who are living in refugee camps supported by Stichting Vluchteling. They will perform their own music and play together with the Blazers via the screen. This gives you not only a glimpse into life there, but above all an experience of the creativity, musicality and resilience of people living in difficult circumstances. Music is the connecting force on this special evening filled with energy and imagination.
And, of course, our friends from the choirs Consensus Vocalis and TARAB Choir will be joining us again. Their enthusiasm and energy truly make the evening complete.
On 19 September, PHIL Haarlem will host a Peace Market before the performance, where social and community organisations will present their work and products. Enjoy some food and refreshments and meet others. From 7:00 p.m., there will be a Conversation about Peace in the Small Hall. For more information, visit their website: Nederlands Blazers Ensemble – Day of Peace · PHIL Haarlem
After the performance, there will be an informal yet festive after-concert gathering in the foyer of both halls, offering an opportunity to chat with the musicians and reflect on the evening together.
