The Netherlands Wind Ensemble (NBE) embarks on a journey into the rich world of Indian music—a tradition in which patience, devotion, and improvisation converge.
Renowned sarangi maestro Ustad Sabir Khan, heir to the centuries-old musical lineage of the Sikar Gharana in Rajasthan, shares his extraordinary musical heritage with the ensemble. His father, the legendary Ustad Sultan Khan, collaborated with artists including George Harrison and Madonna, leaving an indelible mark on both Indian classical music and Bollywood.
Trombonist and composer Arjan Linker, winner of the NBE’s Composition Competition, has since become a shishya (disciple) of Ustad Sabir Khan, entering his musical lineage. Sabir Khan possesses a rare gift for drawing audiences into a musical world where attentive listening, shared experience, and human connection matter more than explanation or analysis.
The NBE immerses itself in this expressive tradition, shaped by the art of improvisation, while also embracing the vibrant energy, colour, and playfulness of Bollywood. Raga & Rasa – From Guru to Shishya is a musical encounter that celebrates the passing of knowledge from master to disciple, and the meeting of musical worlds through curiosity, craftsmanship, and imagination.
