Together with Flemish writer Maud Vanhauwaert, The Dutch Wind Ensemble explores the night and love through the music of Richard Strauss and Arnold Schönberg.
Strauss’s light and graceful Serenade and his more expansive Suite are set alongside Schönberg’s haunting Verklärte Nacht — a musical portrayal of a nocturnal confession filled with guilt, forgiveness, and inner transformation.
For the first time, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble presents a programme performed entirely by wind players. Strauss in his original scoring, alongside Schönberg reimagined for winds by Geert van Keulen, promises chamber music of the highest level. A thrilling exploration of new colours and of what lies hidden beneath the original orchestrations.
Maud Vanhauwaert brings the story of Verklärte Nacht into the present day. With playful, sharp-witted observations and unexpected twists, she makes love and vulnerability deeply tangible.
